MALAYSIA A LAND OF OPPORTUNITIES?
While I am very proud to be Malaysians but at the same time I feel very sad and disheartened mainly because lately we read in news papers,TV's,Blogs and other communication tools how fragile our security is ? Imagine A country of 27 million people with 1.8 million registered foreign workers and over 2.1 million illegal immigrants not considering hundred of thousands more foreigners who is in our country who came as students or tourist. Some of these people became prostitutes, GRO's ,beggars and some also involved in criminal activities.
We read almost daily reports on the authorities clamp-down on illegal massage parlors, night clubs and karaoke centers which offered services of foreign prostitutes. What saddened us is some of these foreigners has been caught more that once some even has been caught for three times. Each time they were caught, they will be deported and they keep returning back to our country for "business".
Sincerely no body really knows what exactly happened to our Immigration Regulations if each time a foreigner is deported for whatever reasons, they can still keep coming back here and can continue doing what they please without being detected at the immigration check point or entry point.
On Monday Dec 7,2009 BERNAMA has reported that MALAYSIAN TRADE UNION CONGRESS (MTUC) has urged the government to declare another round of amnesty to allow the estimated 2.1 million illegal foreign workers to leave the country.
It's Vice-President A. Balasubramaniam said this was the best way to reduce the number of illegal foreign workers in this country He adds that the last amnesty from July 1st 2004 to Feb 2005 was very successful as 230,000 such workers left the country voluntarily .
He further said that MTUC has received many requests from these workers, especially from those workers whose visas has expired. They expressed their desire to return home to their country of origins.
According to Balasubramaniam it would cost a worker RM2000 to get the papers to return to their country including a fine of RM300 for overstaying, RM600 for air fare and RM1100 for processing the application.
Under the amnesty the workers need not pay for as reparations cost will be borne by their country
On December 11,2009 THE STAR has reported fro the Dewan Rakyat that The Malaysian Government has spent RM30 million to send 154,729 illegal immigrants back to their home countries over the last three years. Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusof said that this year alone the government has spent RM8.7 million to deport 28849 illegal workers
Last year the Government spent RM11.7 million to send home 60800 illegal workers and in 2007 the Government has spend RM8.7 million to repatriate 65080 illegal workers.
He told Mohsin Fadzli Samsuri (PKR - Bagan Serai) that the cost of repatriating these workers has to be borne by the Government. They were send back by Sea, Land or Air. He further said that besides the Government has to spend RM30 a day on every illegal immigrant if the if they were being held in detention depots.Between 2006 and last year a total of 248,939 illegal immigrants has been detained.
From the above figures we can assume that managing illegal immigrants is a very tedious job. From those reports the relevant agencies must not keep their mind and eyes shuts. They have to quickly think of a solution how to arrest these major problems. We should not wait until it is too late when things are out of control.National Security is of utmost important.
We should not be too complesent just because as of now our security is still very munch on control. Let us not allow the foreigners to use our inaction to come to this land to do anything they like.
On Wednesday December 16th, 2009, China Press has reported that about 5000 refugees has flocked to Butterworth to become beggars. They were registerd with UNHCR, United Nation High Commissioner For Refugees. Most of them were from Myanmar.
According to Penang Health ,Welfare, Caring Society and Enviroment Committee Chairman Phee Boon Poh when they land in Malaysia, the Government cannot take any action against them if they were arrested. Under the law they cannot work in the country that is is why they resort to begging.
Meanwhile according to Datuk Micheal Chong who is MCA Public Services and Complains Department Head a foreign beggar can get a few thousand ringgit or even up to RM10000 a month from their begging activities in Malaysia. These beggars came from China, Thailand, Myanmar, Pakistan and India and were linked to "Bogus Beggars"syndicates.
Last week a STAR PROBE team has exposed foreigners with disfigured bodies were begging in Melaka night markets and also believed to be linked with beggars syndicates too.
Looks like Malaysia has become a heaven for all sort of foreign people, they came here in droves either as Tourist, Students, Workers and even Beggars.
