In conjunction with International Human Rights Day, the Bar Council Human Rights Committee (BCHRC) organised a Children’s Homes Fundraising Dinner on 10 December 2009 to collect funds for seven children’s homes, namely Desa Amal Jireh, The Pure Life Society, Gurpuri Foundation, Rumah Solehah, An-Najjah, All Ethnic Group Refugee Children Education Centre and Rumah Sayangan. Carrying a motto of “Our Children. Our Hope. Our Future.”, the Children’s Homes Fundraising Dinner was a one-of-its-kind approach by the BCHRC to celebrate International Human Rights Day.
The event was, in the view of many who attended that evening, a tremendous success. The BCHRC managed to raise approximately RM189,000.00 through the sale of tickets, t-shirt, artwork and donations. Having visited the homes and had the opportunity to assess their needs and requirements, the BCHRC has decided to disburse the funds collected in the following manner: RM56,400 to All Ethnic Group Refugee Children Education Centre, RM37,600 to Rumah Solehah and RM18,800 each to the remaining five homes.
The BCHRC thanks all the individual and corporate sponsors and donors and in particular, our Gold Sponsor, UMNO, for their generous support and contributions, which made the objective of assisting the seven homes a reality.
We would also like to express our gratitude to all the members of the BCHRC and other volunteers as well as the Bar Council secretariat staff members who tirelessly worked and gave their time and energy to make the event a success.
