Malaysia refutes Myanmar refugee’s allegations

The government has denied allegations by a refugee of Myanmar. He claimed in a foreign media that he was in custody for three months and caned last year in spite of possessing a refugee card which was issued by the United Nations High Commis¬sioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Minister of the Prime Minister’s department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said that he didn’t know the details of the allegations but he believes that the refugee must have done something against the law.
The Minister added that it was ridiculous for the authorities to detain anyone who did not break any laws. He also added that Citizens or refugees must adhere to the country’s law.
The news of the refugee who sent to prison for three months and was caned during detention was reported in the newspaper. The refugee also supposed that Rela had taken away his refugee card and that he was not given legal depiction in the court.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri strained that Malaysia had never deprived of the rights of refugees.
