Three Myanmar workers were killed in a landslide at the Sierra Ukay construction site in Ukay Perdana today. A fourth worker, a Bangladeshi, was rescued by his fellow workers and sent to the Ampang hospital where he was treated for a broken leg. A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the incident occurred at about 11.30am. At the time, construction workers had managed to extricate two of four colleagues who had been buried in the landslide. One was still alive and the other had succumbed to his injuries. At 12.30pm, firemen extricated the bodies of two other Myanmar workers from the rubble. The spokesman said the cause of the landslide was under investigation. Meanwhile, the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council has issued a stop work order on the Sierra Ukay housing project. Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman Azmin Ali told reporters at the Selangor state assembly building that the landslide is believed to have been caused by excavation works and not natural causes. “The MPAJ has issued an immediate stop-work order on the developer IJM until investigations are completed,” said Azmin. “The CIBD (Construction Industry Development Board) will investigate if safety measures were adhered to," he said. Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said engineers will investigate the matter and report their findings. “MPAJ has been monitoring the area. The last time they were at the slope was on Monday and there were no indication of any soil movement. He emphasised that the landslide was not of natural causes but due to works carried out at the area. - July 3, 2013. - Malaysian Insider, Three Myanmar workers killed at Ampang construction site
