PUTRAJAYA: More than four million enforcement personnel will be deployed nationwide in a massive crackdown soon against errant employers and illegal immigrants who refused to register under the 6P programme, said Home Ministry secretary-general, Tan Sri Mahmood Adam.
He said the operation which involved locations on land, sea and borders would be led by the Immigration Department.
“The operation will be supported by various other agencies including nearly three million People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), 125,000 policemen and 110,000 military personnel,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
The crackdown decision was taken at the meeting of the 6P Programme Implementing Enforcement Agencies organised by the ministry for the first time here yesterday which was chaired by Mahmood.
The 6P is a legalisation and amnesty programme for illegals.
Mahmood said as the lead agency, the Immigration Department among others was responsible for the planning and providing the strategic operation plan, enforcement, coordination at state level and reporting of statistics on daily enforcement to the 6P Programme Implementation Committee at the ministry.
He said based on the operation work procedure proposed by the ministry, employers and illegal immigrants not registered under 6P Programme would be given a special period to surrender to any Immigration Department offices throughout the country.
“The act to give up would exempt them from punishment but the employers and illegal immigrants would be bound by regulations for the employer to send the illegal immigrants back at the expense of the employer,” he said.
In line with that, he said, the government would announce the final date to process surrenders and after the period ended, the massive crackdown would begin.
He said the enforcement operation was to arrest errant employers and illegal immigrants who refused to r egister their biometric records or surrender after failing to register. — Bernama
