CNF was not formed in 1989 but formed in 1988 by the people who would like to strife for Restoration of "Chin self-determination, Democracy, and Federalism". It is not a political party but revolutionary front. Anyone, who would like to scarify his or her life for achievement of the aforesaid Chin National Interests are welcome. When General Aung San started for a revolution, he did not ask public consent. So, CNF did not ask public consent to start a revolution. Why? CNF is a political organization, but a revolutionary front.
CNF is not a "gunmen gang" as Kee Lee Awm alleged. It is a revolutionary front working for restoration of Chin-self determination, democracy and federalism, which are the three "Interests of Chin Peoples" or "Chin National/People Interests". Because, Chin Self-determination is a universal, natural, and inalienable right of the Chin people. Secondly, the Chin people decided to adopt Democracy rather than Feudalism in 1948 at Falam Conference. Third, the Chin leaders singed Panglong Agreement and also majority of the Chin leaders expressed explicitly at the Frontier Areas Commission of Inquiry that "the Chin People want Federalism and Federal State and Federal Union.
CNF is not led or monopolized by Hakha speaking people, as you wrongfully alleged. Majority of CNF leaders CNA commanders and members are not Hakha or Thangtlang, rather Matus, Maras, Zopheis etc. As of today, majority of CNF Central Committee Members are Matus and Maras.
Kee Lee Awm's information of the Chin Consensus Building and the birth of Political Affairs Committee of Chinland as well as Chin National Council are, again incorrect. The Chin National Front tried to work with all Chin leaders, scholars, activists, and patriotic since 1988. After taking initiatives for two years, the First Chin Seminar was held in Ottawa in 1998 and, the Chin Forum, a non-political, non-partisan organization came into being. Of course, Kee Lee Awm was one of the leaders of Chin Forum until he resigned from Chin Forum just before Germany Meeting. The truth is some Chin leaders, scholars, intellectuals, activists, and patriotic still reluctant to work with Chin Forum, by individual basis. These people have their own version of reasons but the peoples who are in the Chin Forum know that the Chin Forum is independent forum and CNF has never tried to influence the Chin Forum. In 2000, the CNF think that it would be a good idea to initiate to work together organizational basis, it took initiatives again. After consulting with political organizations and civic or civil organizations for two or more years, PACC was formed and finally PACC was transformed to CNC.
The CNF has been working for implementation of the interests of the Chin People since 1988. The Chin National Front ask donation from the people and not coerce the people. Front time to time, CNF also providing certain humanitarian assistances to border areas by working with international donors. I think, you know some thing about Backpack Medical Team's works in border areas. Also, CNF has been working with local peoples to improve their education through providing certain assistances with interest groups. In 2006 alone, CNF provided KS. 80,000, 000.00 worth of humanitarian assistances, to the Chin peoples under the Cross-Border Assistance Program.
CNF is not a political party but a revolutionary organization which dedicates it self for restoration of the interests of the Chin People. There is no rule, principle, norm or law which said that "You can not form a revolutionary organization to achieve the interests of your people". Even, your own organization CYA does not have peoples mandate but your organization can do whatever you deem is appropriate for your tribe. What you need to understand is that CNF is not a political organization so that it is not operating like a political organization. It is a revolutionary front, therefore, operating in accordance with the norms, practice, and standard of forefront revolutionary organizations which strife for achievement of the democracy, self-determination, and freedom of their people.
As a revolutionary organization working for implement the interests of the Chin people, CNF will dissolve immediately when these three national interests (self-determination , democracy, and federalism) are achieved. Because, CNF clearly believed and envisioned that when these three Chin national interests are met, there is no reason (again no reason at all) for the CNF to remain as revolutionary organization. Because, there are many outstanding politicians and nationalists like you, who would do out standing politic and political jobs for the Chin people, when and after the three Chin National Interests are met.
The Chin self-determination, democracy and federalism are the interests of the Chin people because no one stated that he or she does not like self-determination, democracy, and federalism. However, you can try in various different ways to implement these three Chin national interests completely different ways. And you also does not have a right to say that you should not do this and do that or do this way or do that way when an individual, a political organization, or a revolutionary organization is doing their own ways. Almost all the Chin people who are living in and outside Chinland, who involves in any organization or working as individual knows that what is right and what is wrong. You do your own way and they will do their own way! If you want to work with them, CNF welcomes you. The most important matter for the Chin people is how to get Chin Self-determination, Democracy and Federalism.
Chin people were self-determined people before the British occupation. The Chin people lost it to the Burman in 1948 and the Chin people need to fight back. The Chin people want Federalism thats why Chin leaders singed Panglong Agreement and majority of Chin leaders clearly said that the Chin people wants Federalism, Federal State, and Federal Union (not centralized Union) in 1947. A year later, the Chin people again spoke out that they no longer want Feudalism but Democracy in Falam. These three matters are not the mere policies of CNF but the Chin National Interests. The question is "Do you want to work by yourself or with any organization to achieve these matters?
US Congress has enacted Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act in 2003, which aimed to achieve democracy, reconciliation and freedom in Burma. UN has been passing several resolution for restoration of democracy, freedom and national reconciliation. So, it is safe to say that CNF is a revolution organization which working to implement the US Foreign Policies and the policies of UN, EU, and ASEAN. But remember, CNF is "NOT" a puppet of USA, UN or any organizations.
I hope this email clear up your misunderstanding toward the Chin National Front and the people who are working under the banner of the CNF to achieve the three Chin National Interests. (5) For this conference, CNF take the responsibility of finance and got US dollar ten thousand from NRP. CNF reused to hand over the cash to organizing committee and he held himself the name "consensus building seminar" and form PACC for his perpetuity. The followers are CNLD, MPP and ZNC. Actually this pretend alliance purpose is expected the grant from NRP and other NGOs. They are welling knowing NGOs and donors interest umbrella organization. And, they change the name PACC to CNC again in 2006 for a few persons' professional.
(6) In 2004, at the border of Mindat and Matupi townships, CYA (Inside) warned CNF, not to enter and not to collect money again in Mindat and Kanpetlet townships area. If CNF not obey this order, will face re-counter attacked. Matupi is seemed to exception. As soon as we CYA (India) got this information our reply message was "we encourage to protect the people from not only CNF but also SPDC".
(7) KCho do not recognize the existence of CNF before. And also never and Never more. CNF should dissolved himself. Otherwise, all the Chin tribal groups should repel it together.

Frankly speaking, whether to abolish, dissolve, sell or auction the CNF/A is the matter of the members of CNF/A, none of Hre Mang or Kee Lee Awm's business.
Some peoples really love to talk about how bad, ugly, fat, clumsy, dirty, and nasty their ex-wife was, after they separated. The ordinary people don't talk about how bad or how good their ex-wives or girlfriends or lovers were or are.
The CNF/A has been survived for 19 years because of the commitment of the people who shared their inspiration, idealism, and vision. Some people wrongly classify the CNF as a "Political Party", rather a "Revolutionary Organization" . In deed, the fact is CNF is a revolutionary front, which strife steadfastly to achieve the 3 ideals of the Chin People. Because, rationally speaking 99% of Chin people want Chin Self-determination Right; 90% of Chin people want Democracy and 90% of Chin people want Federalism. Of course, there could be some Chin people who want "Burman Rule" rather than "Chin Self-determination; "Military Rule" rather than "Democracy"; and "Unitary System" rather than "Federalism" and willing to work with SPDC for their own benefits.
A few years ago, Hre Mang and his friends formed "Young Chin Liberals and Democrats" in USA and indeed, many Chin peoples congratulated him and his folks. But, such intellectualistic, scholaristic, yet jumbo-mambo organization disappeared like in the mist in the following few months. The question is that "had anyone asked Hre Mang and his folks to abolish or discontinue? " Or, his organization was terminated because it did not serve the interest of the Chin people? In fact, the aims and objectives of YCLD were super great ideals though.
Hre Mang might say that "I don't need CNF to represent or work to implement my ideals or the Chin ideals: Chin Self-determination, Democracy, and Federalism" because, I can do by my self. Well, if this was the case, have him and his folks asked the consent of the Chin people when they formed mambo-jumbo "Young Chin Liberals and Democrats" a few years ago? Respectfully, I think not.
Hre Mang often loves to murmuring about unity. But, he never elaborates what kind of unity he want and how he would like to achieve his utopian-unity. The truth is that even though millions of people share a particular value or norm, they are not always united on that value or norm because their personal/local/ regional preferences their self interests always greater than the norm or value they share with others. Unfortunately, among the Chin people, generally speaking for the Chins in West Hemisphere or mainly in those who lives in USA, mighty green $$$$ is more important than anything else. For them, lack of "Self-determination , Democracy, and Federalism" in Chinland and Burma are only important for once in their life time, when they applied for refugee or asylee. Once they become "Refugee, Asylee, or in other words" - so called "Free Riders", they enjoy to keep riding on the free highway.
Hre Mang reminds us again, the way in which he defended his scholar mentor Dr. Zar Ni on VOA a few years ago about the talk between Dr. Zar Ni and MIs in Rangoon. Well, the truth is that Dr. Zar Ni had talked to SPDC, not him, Hre Mang or Kee Lee Awm. CNF might want talk to SPDC may be not Hre Mang or Kee Lee Awm. Hre Mang and Kee Lee Awm might also want talk to SPDC like the way Dr. Zar Ni did, but does SPDC knows Hre Mang or Kee Lee Awm? I hope not. So, why should Hre Mang and Kee Lee Awm or anyone need to worry for SPDC-CNF talk? The truth is that if SPDC think that Hre Mang and Kee Lee Awm are important enough to talk with them for the good cause of Burma, they will surely give them free two-way tickets to Rangoon for the talks. Let the CNF take a good care of it own Chin National business!

If anyone considers this topic worth to discuss in the Chin public forum, lets take a moment, set aside our regional feelings, the party or social alliance we belong, and anything that might caused our mental & intellectual capacity impaired, and share what we think would serve the best interest of all Chins for the long run, in other word, what would serve the Chins to write their history in favor of the happiness of the majority of the Chin people.
The question is, should the CNF/A be abolished? Would it serve better the interest of the Chin people?
In 2002 summer, during my meeting with the Washington DC based Zomi Inkuan, one of the respected Chin leaders told me that if the CNF/A is abolished, it would better serve the interest of the Chin people and to rebuild the fragile unity among us.
Since 2005, the Falam region local residents could no longer bear the burden of the CNF/A forced money collection and disturbance to the local citizens. And in 2006, the Falam parents, formed the Falam Humhual Pawlpi (the Falam Protection organization) , one thing, to stop any underground armed group from disturbing the local citizens.
Since around 2002, local citizens of Tidim and Tawnzang successfully campaign against the CNF/A's activities inside the region, forced collection of money, forced recruitment, etc.
Now, from the south, a Kcho leader, Pu Kee Lee Awm, has expressed his view that the CNF/A must be abolished (please see below for his posting at Kcho group mail).
At this turn of history, the CNF/A, composed of a handful of activists from Hakha and Thlantlang, is trying to get recognition from the SPDC and to work with the SPDC inside the
So what's next? There are obvious scenarios:
#1. If the CNF/A still stay outside: how much it would potentially benefits the Chins people as a whole? What are the political advantages and disadvantages?
#. 2. If the CNF/A makes a deal with the SPDC and work with the SPDC, where will they be located, in Hakha, Thlantlang alone? What role they would be playing in the Chin politics, serve as the Chin state armed force?

So, these are things to consider for any prudent and honest citizen who concerns for the well being of the Chin people and their history.
With no intention to hurt anyone's feeling or thinking, but to serve the collective interest what I think both the CNF/A and the rest would be happy to hear, to better serve the collective interest of all Chins for the long-run.

CNF never claimed and would not have its official position on any language to be used as common language of Chinland. Because, CNF clearly understands the fact that this matter should be decided by democratically elected people representative of Chinland or the whole Chin people through referendum(s) (if necessary).
CNF never claimed or would not have any official position on which city, town, village, or jungle should be the de jure capital of Chinland. Because, CNF clearly understands the fact that the people only have final authority to make final decision democratically by themselves or through their representatives.
What the several peoples have been confused is, the differences between the real of "representing the people" and "representing the interest of the people". CNF is not a political party as stated consistently, therefore does not directly represent the Chin people, like the way in which a political organization or government represents its people or the peoples in their respective constituencies. However, CNF is a revolutionary organization, therefore, does and has the right to represent the "interest of the Chin people" because CNF clearly believe that majority of the Chin people want "self-determination , democracy, and federalism".
However, it also possible that some Chin people might want "Burman rule" rather than "Chin self-determination" , "military rule" rather than "democracy", or "unitary" rather than "federalism" . If these are the cases, such people or group may join SPDC or form an organization and fight the CNF. Because, there is no reason the same people fighting for the same interests. Rather working together or working different ways and means to achieve the same interest.
There are several contacts between CNF and SPDC to deal ongoing political conflict in peaceful means since 1990s. Until the deal is done between SPDC and CNF and when you see the contexts and contents of the deal in written form or other means, whatever predictions you are making in your news are mere "assumptions" and not "facts".
There could be some Falam people or Hakha people, who want to kill each other for shifting "Chinland" capital "Back and Forth" to their own respective home town (or) trying to coerce the rest of the Chin people to speak 99.99% similar their "Laizo" and "Lai/Hakha/Thang Tlang" languages. However, do keep in mind that CNF has nothing to do with making decision on Chinland capital and Chin Common language or which dialect to be used in "Burman Broadcasting Service". Let the people decide when the interests of the Chin people are fully implemented.
When the three Chin National Interests "Chin self-determination, Democracy, and Federalism" are implemented, the CNF will be buried in the jungle, in accordance with the resolution passed in the Third Conference of the Chin National Front. Because, after these three Chin National Interests are being implemented there is no reason to keep a revolutionary organization among the Chins. Because, after revolution is over and the Chin National Interests are being implemented, the rest will be take care by political parties, politicians, bureaucrats, and the Chin people.
