PETALING JAYA: Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) has applauded the Government’s decision to issue identification cards to refugees recognised by the United Nations.
Its coordinator Temme Lee said it was a positive move towards recognising the right to seek asylum.
Suaram hoped the Government would take more effective measures in reforming immigration policies and not just rely on crackdowns to reduce the large numbers of undocumented migrants in Malaysia, Lee said in a press statement yesterday.
Lee added that asylum seekers should also be allowed to work full-time to earn a living and not just do odd-jobs.
